I can’t remember a time when as a child I wasn’t drawing or doodling with my head “in the clouds”.
At difficult times art has provided me with healing. It has helped me lose myself in the flow and escape into a world where pain and sadness dissolved.
After an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts and Honors degrees in Clinical Psychology I completed a Masters Degree in School Psychology and also qualified as a reading specialist and special education therapist.
My adult painting journey began after I got married. Our path to having our own family was not an easy one and we resorted to IVF which thankfully was successful and we were thrilled! Our joy was upended when I contracted an unexpected infection at 20 weeks and in one ‘swoop’ we lost that child and, what seemed at the time, our dream of having a family. Fortunately painting offered me a respite from pain and released a passion that just ‘poured’ out of me, it felt like my heart was singing! Today I feel blessed to have three amazing kids.
In 2011 I lost my beloved father when he was killed in a carjacking. I remember my most dramatic painting after his death was of a beautiful, glamorous performer and she evolved out of so many lavish strokes of black and dark tones which ironically helped me out of the dark space I found myself in.
A few years ago we moved from South Africa to Tenafly, New Jersey, where I continue to immerse myself in art. My style is bold, joyful and energetic manifesting in unexpected color combinations. I love experimenting with different mediums such as acrylic, oil and mixed media. I also love the alchemy of abstract art. My themes are constantly in transition as I evolve personally and as an artist although I do love painting women, nature and trees. I also adore painting spiritual and Judaica themes related to milestones in Jewish life.
I also design pieces on commission such as pet portraits with one family member as well as unique mixed media artworks or ‘art gifts’ for milestone events such as weddings, bat or barmitzvahs or family narrative artwork and would love to discuss your needs and try fulfil your vision.
